SPM® N2 Relief Valves
SPM® offers nitrogen relief valves in two styles, a reseatable backpressure valve and a dump-style full bore unloading valve.
Overview
Weir SPM® nitrogen actuated relief valves come in two versions: a backpressure relief valve and a full bore unloading valve. The SPM® EXL backpressure relief valve is the next generation in SPM’s back pressure relief valve offering. The valve features a threaded body, more compact envelope and changes to internal features that improve serviceability. This valve is able to reseat, making it possible to continue operation after the valve has vented.
The SPM® EXL backpressure relief valve features include:
l Threaded body-to-bonnet engagement for increased safety.
l A channeled spider designed to reduce turbulence in the valve and reduce potential for sand accumulation that can lead to improper sealing. This design also better directs fluid through the seal interface and out the discharge outlet.
l A cylinder rod with a secondary seal for additional protection from pressurized fluid bypassing the primary seals and energizing the bonnet assembly.
l An easier-to-install packing assembly that replaces the legacy nylon bushing supporting rod. This packing assembly also offers better rod alignment, improving sealing in normal valve cycling.
Unlike the SPM® EXL backpressure relief valve, the N2 full bore unloading valve operates as a dump valve, remaining open until the pump system is shut down and the valve is reset. The N2 full bore unloading valve is ideal for operators who want full system shutdown after an overpressure event.
Full bore unloading valve features include:
l Fully open valve discharges for immediate pressure relief.
l Gland style seal that is more forgiving of valve chatter caused by pulsations in treating line.
l Cap guards that protect nitrogen hoses from damage.
Both valves come in a 3-inch size for operating pressures up to 15,000 psi.
